Curriculum & Learning

At Boomerang Kids, we want every child to thrive and therefore, we endeavour to offer engaging, thought provoking experiences alongside play invitations for indoors and outdoors. Individual interests and needs are considered throughout our curriculum whilst working closely with Development Matters, the Government guidance for learning in the Early Years.

There are 7 areas of learning and development, consisting of Prime areas and Specific areas:

Prime Areas

Communication and Language
Personal, Social and Emotional
Physical Development

Specific Areas

Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design

Children will work towards the 3 prime areas first, and as they grow this will help them develop skills in the 4 specific areas. Development is broken down into achievable goals that each child can reach at their own pace.

At Boomerang Kids, we carefully plan hands on, real life experiences through a talking rich curriculum to support children with the skills required to live and grow in society.

We follow a seasonal approach to planning, celebrating the natural seasonal cycle and enjoy lots of visits within the local community to observe, monitor and reflect on changes throughout the year.

We enjoy lots of outdoor learning within the community and within our own outdoor learning classroom ‘Little Explorers.’ We have also carefully constructed indoor classrooms to promote all areas of learning, development and independence. Our aim is to provide rich, purposeful experiences that prepare our children for their transition into Reception year at school.

We work closely with parents and carers so that they are able to reflect on their child’s progress. Parents receive two detailed spotlight reports per year reflecting on all areas of their child’s development. These are used as a tool for discussion so we can formulate the best support for their child. In addition parents receive long observations on tapestry, (our online journal system) providing a real insight into their child’s interests as well as WOW moments, for any of those wonderful achievement moments that make parents proud.

Key Person

We operate a family grouping at Boomerang Kids. As soon as your child joins us, they will be allocated a group and introduced to their Key Persons.

The role of the Key-person is primarily to support your child in the setting. There will be at least two Key Persons in each group; which means your child will always have a familiar adult around.
