The Little Explorers programme is based on forest school and outdoor learning principles and encourages play, exploration and supported risk taking. It also provides plenty of fresh air and exercise and is a valuable contribution to children’s physical development.
It is part of the curriculum here for children aged 3 years+ and undertaken as a course of weekly sessions over a 6 week period.
Children will be allocated a set day to attend their Little Explorer sessions and receive a certificate of learning at the end of the course.
The Little Explorers will focus on exploring the natural environment of our Bear Garden, using their creativity to produce natural art, their practical skills to climb trees and natural curiosity to learn about the other inhabitants of their environment such as birds insects and plants. They will also undertake short trips to the park and the beach to learn about safe exploration of different environments. They will learn different skills to encourage independence and a sense of community, such as washing up after breakfast or litter picking in the park.
Children need to come suitably dressed to spend the day outside, including waterproof trousers and coat, wellingtons, trainers, sun hat. They will require a packed lunch and separate water bottle. In the case of extreme adverse weather we have options for shelter and inside activities.
